Magic:
fire
Creating fire is something that has been passed down from generations in Zared's family. Creating fires is stupid simple for Zare. It works, first, by him heating up the blood in his own body. He focuses his mind wherever he wants the fire to appear, and can manipulate the air around that area to become hot and dry. The fire can be put out with water, but it is much harder to put out. However, he can only do this to places that are less than a yard away from him. The further away from him it is, the weaker the fire is. However, on the plus side, he can conjure flames easily in the palms of his hands. This requires virtually no concentration. He cannot conjure flames when it's raining.
Personality:
superiority complex
Zared is absolutely obsessed with being the absolute best. At anything. He can't stand the thought of losing, and if he's outshined by anyone, he becomes rather broody. In order to keep himself feeling up, he tends to be a bit of a bully. Not nearly as bad as he could be, but Zared will still tear others down to bring himself up. He can become extremely angry if the person he's trying to tear apart acts like he doesn't matter. This is when Zared can turn fairly violent.
competitive
If you challenge Zared to something, expect him to accept the challenge. He will say that the challenge is 'beneath him' or that he could do it with his eyes closed, but he will, nonetheless, accept. He'll act like he's not really trying, but the truth is, Zared will give it 110%.
egotistical
He knows he's great. He knows he's attractive. He knows he can get whatever he wants - especially from women - with a simple look. He thinks of himself very highly, even when others are trying to tear him apart. Zared tends to act extremely spoiled(and honestly, he is). He believes that everything should come to him on a silver platter. He's Zared, after all! What Zared wants, Zared gets.
jealous
He would never admit it, but Zared loves to be fawned over. Not necessarily touched or hugged, but he does like to think that others worship the ground he walks on. So when the limelight is no longer his, when attention is placed elsewhere, Zared can become hatefully jealous. It isn't only when others have the center of attention, however. If someone seems to be better than Zared at something, his jealousy is very noticeable. He's extremely childish with this, often brooding and internally pouting.
determined
He's not all bad, though! Zared is a determined young man. Once he sets his mind to do something, he'll do it, and usually very well. He doesn't quit in the middle of projects. He does whatever he puts his mind to; quickly and efficiently getting the job done without a single complaint.
perfectionist
Sadly, no matter what he does, nothing is ever good enough for him. He can look at something someone else did, see all the good in it, and look at his own work, and see only the bad. Zared really doesn't need someone else to tear him down. He tears himself down. Often, he thinks that everything he does ends up broken; everything he attempts is somehow not good enough. He, himself, is not good enough. Yes, above everything, Zared strives to be absolutely perfect. But perfection isn't possible - even for magical beings.
quiet
Lips firmly zipped, Zared doesn't speak. He is fully capable of speaking, he simply chooses not to. To him, speaking is a waste of his valuable time. Talking wastes air. It takes up the time he could be using to perfect himself. Even when he speaks, it's low - steady, firm, monotoned. Of course, get him angry enough - and if you've been reading, you'll see that that's fairly easy to do - and Zared is more than happy to fling a few choice words. Loudly.
observant
His eyes are always watching. Even when you think they're not, they are. Zared spends a lot of his time people-watching. And no, it isn't to make up cute, interesting stories about their day that may or may not be true. Zared sees only the bad in the world, and his eyes are usually looking for the facial cues that signal a lie. Even though he is so damn observant, it's remarkably easy to lie to Zared.
gullible
This trait is a little difficult to explain. Yes, he is intelligent, observant, and analytical... But sadly, he's not very logical most of the time. Zared will believe what he wants to believe, whether it's true or not. This can easily be used to someone's advantage, especially if they are knowledgeable in facial expressions. For someone so closed off from the world - so he thinks - it isn't very difficult to get inside his head, and make him believe a lie. Overall, Zared tends to believe more lies than truths - particularly if the lie is more hurtful than the truth. I supposed you could say Zared believes whatever seems to be the most painful.
mask
Upon first meeting Zared, the above traits are never clear. He keeps his emotions firmly locked away, hidden from prying eyes. He wears a mask of indifference, of carelessness. His lips do not curve into a smile, nor do they curve into a frown. His forehead doesn't wrinkle with the furrow of brows, and eyes do not crinkle. Zared prefers to keep it this way. It's a shame that glass masks break so easily.
closed off
Zared keeps himself firmly removed from others. Even though he craves attention and acknowledgement, he also fears rejection. He fears rejection more than he craves acknowledgement. He doesn't mind being physically around others, of course, but on an emotional, psychological level, Zared doesn't open up.
drinking problem
With all of his 'issues' this shouldn't be much of a shock. Although he keeps this part even more tightly hidden than his emotions, Zared does, indeed, have a problem with alcohol. It's simply too tempting for him, too easy to drown his sorrows away. When Zared drinks, he becomes a whole other person. He laughs more, he flirts shamelessly, and he's a lot more open and honest about the way he's feeling. He's also extremely emotional. If you think he's quick to anger sober, you're in for a shock when he's drunk. Zared is downright abusive when he's angry-drunk.
fragile
Didn't expect this one? Well, perhaps you should have. Zared has always - always - been overshadowed by his older brother. Even as a child, he didn't receive much attention, except from his brother. He was always told, "You should be more like Castien." On a psychological level, that damages a kid. And ultimately, that's all Zared is. He never got to grow up, never got to step from his brother's shadow. In the end, Zared is just as breakable as glass.
Family: Arthion Uchiha, father.
Tuarwen Uchiha, mother.
Castien Uchiha, elder brother.
History:
“Grow up like Castien.”
“Your brother learned twice as quickly as you.”
“Castien, please tutor him. He’s so slow.”
“You should be more like Castien.”
That name became a poison. A bitter taste left in his mouth each time he was forced to utter it. His ears felt like they would bleed each time he heard that name. Castien, they would taunt. He was compared to Castien. He was ridiculed because he wasn’t Castien. He was looked down upon because he wasn’t Castien. He struggled to push the shadow of his brother away, to show that, even if he wasn’t Castien, he was still amazing, too. He deserved to be praised, too. But his brother’s shadow, his presence, threatened to suffocate him, to pull him under and silence him forever.
It wasn’t always that way. There was a time, when Zared was very young, and naïve, and happy, when his greatest pleasure in life was being with Castien. He was always overjoyed when Castien agreed to show Zared the proper way to hold a dagger, or how to make arrow heads that could cut through the thick skin of the deer they hunted, but were still light and nearly weightless. It was Castien who showed Zared how to conjure flames. It was Castien who taught Zared to speak, to walk. And as Zared’s mind continue to mature, it was Castien who taught Zared to speak English – and then, upon request, a few others. Castien virtually raised Zared on his own, for their parents were far too concerned with Castien. And it was Castien who, out of guilt, gave Zared whatever the elven child asked.
It was Castien who, albeit accidentally, created a poison in Zared’s mind. It was Castien who was resented, loathed, challenged many times as the two continued to age. And when he couldn’t take anymore hate from his dear brother, it was Castien who left their small elven village. And then it was Zared who suddenly had all the responsibilities. It was Zared who was suddenly betrothed. It was Zared who was to take up as the clan’s leader.
- - - - - -
Zared’s life wasn’t all bad. His best friend, Fenil, was always there to catch him. She listened to Zared when he needed it, and she gave him advice when he asked for it. She was a wild child, but she was always there for him, always sitting beside him when he needed her.
It shouldn’t have been a shock for him. As he neared a hundred years – sexual maturity in his community – his father told him that, just like Castien, he was to be married. The clan had chosen his bride for him, and there would be no questions asked. Zared was to marry Fenil. They were betrothed. There was no getting out of it. When Zared tried to protest, he was shot down. “Castien did not complain, and neither will you,” his father told him sternly, walking away without another word.
Truthfully, if he really thought about it, Fenil wasn’t a bad choice. She was pretty, even by elven standards, and she was… Well, he couldn’t quite call her smart, but she wasn’t exactly stupid. She was fun, quirky, and listened. But he didn’t view her as his wife. He viewed her as his sister.
So Zared struck a deal with his father. He would find his brother, and his brother would take over.
So far, Zared has tracked Castien to Silverthorn Crossing.
