Personality:
Laik is... special. Very special. He's a fun loving goof ball that'll do pretty much anything for attention... even if that involves running down the street in his boxers screaming the lyrics to his favorite song. He's random like that. He just gets these weird urges to do something strange and he just does them. Why resist something so fun? Besides, making people smile is basically his goal in life so, if acting stupid results in making people laugh, then he'll happily do it.
With his eagerness to do pretty much anything for laughs comes a great amount of energy... and exhaustion. Laik sometimes seems to have boundless energy. He loves doing anything that involves physically moving and he especially loves racing... but he almost always wins with his extra super speed, which is a bit of a disappointment every now and then but that's okay 'cause he still one! However, once Laik is out of energy, he's completely out. He can sleep pretty much anywhere at anytime. And, yes, you can draw on him with sharpies while he sleeps. He's a deeeeep sleeper and actually snores... relatively quietly. There are even some days where he seriously doesn't want to do anything. He'll lay on the couch and rewatch the Star Wars movies or something like that. Those days are the best.
The only problem with the above paragraphs is that they're both only the beginning of Laik. He's really a rather complicated person. He's haunted by memories of his past and occasionally breaks down. He has a strong sense of honor so he tends not to let people know when he's having issues dealing with his emotions or that he's having a flash back. When things get rough, it's obvious. Even though Laik tries his absolute hardest, it's pretty easy to read his facial expressions to know when he's upset. If and when he does break down, he makes sure that no one is around. He finds crying in front of other people to be one of the most shameful things he could possibly do.
Then there's the angry side to Laik. It's kind of hard to imagine that he has one... but... man, he's got a hell of an angry side. Laik is a very protective person by nature. If anyone were to dare harm something or someone precious to him, they would face his wrath and that is something far from his cute and adorable nature. Mix up his extra energy with his anger and his personal honor and self esteem and you get a creature that refuses to lose, even if it means that he might die. His anger sometimes gets out of control and he goes into a blind rage and destroys pretty much everything in sight.
Family: All the angels and demons are his brothers and sisters~
History:
Laik had never been the patient type. Not even when he had all kinds of good angels to guide his way through heaven, he was always eager to go and do. He had very little respect for others and the orders that were given to him. He was eventually branded as an unnecessary hindrance and cast out of heaven.
Without the halo over his head like a noose around his neck, he was free to do what he wanted... and he sure did take advantage of that. He was absolutely ruthless. He did whatever he wanted, when he wanted, and the things he did grew progressively worse. He'd play games with humans that ended with their deaths. He enjoyed them begging for mercy, but he never heeded their pleas. He saw no need to listen to what they had to say. They were not his masters. He was his own master now and there was no greater feeling.
Though hell occasionally pulled him within its grips, he mainly stayed away from either of the other realms. Earth was his home and his playground. But it didn't last forever. He was taught a lesson in respect when he brushed an older demon the wrong way. It turned out that this demon would decide to Laik under his arm. Perhaps he'd just gotten annoyed with the way that Laik had caused just so much trouble or perhaps he pitied him. Either way, he decided that he was going to teach the young demon some discipline.
Laik didn't really have any options. His new 'master' was a butt-load stronger than him. If he disobeyed or attempted to leave, he'd soon find himself pinned to the floor or being dragged off for a beating. Eventually, he gave into doing whatever this older demon wanted. The older demon ended up lightening up on the beatings and Laik actually got to learn his name. He was called Mattais and he'd been one of the original angels to fall from heaven alongside Satan. However, Mattais learned that being part of the devil's army wasn't all it was cracked up to be and had cut the majority of his ties with hell which had resulted in a light of back fire but he'd somehow managed to escape the wrath of both heaven and hell. Mattais was no where near a goody goody though. He enjoyed the pain of others, but he had a different way of going about it than Laik did. He forced Laik to join the British military with him and soon taught Laik the best way to get the thrill of human screams. What better place to encounter pain and anguish than a battlefield?
When it was time for the American Revolution, the two of them switched sides, knowing fully well that there was fun to be had in America... but America ended up having fun with them. The new atmosphere of being in a new nation was so different. The people gradually changed and so did the demons that lived amongst them. Mattais actually ended up falling in love with a vampire woman and Laik could finally hold conversations with humans without thinking about how much fun it would be to rip them from limb to limb. Mattais and Laik were unbelievable close. They were closer than friends. Their relationship was barely akin to father and son. Of course, the vampire Mattias was in love with found their relationship to be... somewhat strange, but she accepted it and moved in with the two men. Soon enough, Laik came to see her as a mother figure and he actually began to call her mom, though he never dared call Mattais father. She was something new to him. She had so many human qualities about her that were shocking to Laik. Sure, he'd spoken to humans... but never actually gotten to know a human before. It was his first real relationship he'd had other than the one he'd had with Mattais... so he decided to try and be more friendly to the humans.
It was a bit of a struggle to be friendly to them. He always had to hold back his aggressive nature and just allow them to talk and ask him questions. There were a few failures but, soon enough, his hard work bore fruit. He met a girl named Anna. She was a seventeen year old human who seemed to have amazing amounts of patience with Laik and his clumsy social skills. They were natural friends. She was cautious but kind and he was a clumsy wreck, which she found to be absolutely adorable. It didn't take them too horribly long to become a couple and, though Laik still isn't entirely sure how things worked out like they did, fell in love.
The two were inseparable. Laik actually asked her to skip school to spend time with him, but she'd simply laughed. Just remembering the way she used to laugh at him like that brings pain to Laik's heart... and the only way to explain why is through a few pages in his journal:
[/justify][/i]'Febuary 5, 2013
It's been two weeks... Two weeks and I'm still covered in burn marks. Still reaching for my phone to see if she's called. Still getting up early in the mornings to just sit at the table in a comfortable silence with him. I've been told that journals make it easier to cope with things... but I'm not sure if writing this down is the best thing. If I still expect to see either of them in the living room or waiting at the end of my drive way, then I'm probably too unused to keeping a journal to keep on writing in it... but I guess there's a calming feeling a person gets when they write their feelings out on paper. Mom said that journals are ways to lock things up in a book. It's all your choice to open it up and visit painful memories... so I guess I'll just add my memories in here.
Like I said, it's been two weeks. Two weeks since they died. My girlfriend, Anna, and I had been together for about five months and I'd finally convinced her to take a plane ride with me. Mattais fell in love with airplanes back when he was in the airforce and kept his pilot's license up to date and everything. I know that flying in a plane is different from flying with my wings but... there's just something different about flying in an actual plane. Maybe it's just different cause I respect humans for being able to invent something that let them share the air with us. I'd been trying to convince Anna to fly with us for a good while. She'd always been cautious and even got freaked out by the idea of driving easily. But... she was funny and sweet and, even if she was human, I loved her.
We'd been in the air for twenty one minutes and forty three seconds. I remember because I was using my phone as a camera and talking to Anna throughout the whole thing. She was in the back while Mattais and I were in the two front seats. I'm still not sure what happened... I guess we should have been paying more attention to the wind. But it was like a huge gust of wind came up and sent the plane vertical with the nose towards the earth. Next thing I know, the ground is rushing up to us. Mattais flung himself in front of me and the dash and Anna's screaming bloody murder. It hardly lasted a few seconds... but those seconds are just imprinted in my mind.
Then the metal came crashing down around us and I just knew Mattais was hurt bigtime... there was just too much blood for him not to be... He'd saved my butt before... but I'd never seen him that hurt before. I sat there for a long while.. it was just like my body didn't want to move... and then all of my senses came back to me. I smelled gasoline and began to try and shove my way to the back of the plane... I didn't know if Anna was okay. It took me a while but I managed to get enough metal out of the way to get to her... she seemed passed out. I unfastened her seat belt and started to climb out of the shattered windows when the plane caught on fire. I managed to get Anna out without her getting burnt... but I couldn't just leave Mattais there. I had to break out more glass to fit him through the window and by the time he was out, I had burns all over. By then, people had seen the smoke and had come to help.
I'd been right about Mattais... his injuries were substantial but, with the addition of the burns that he'd gained while I tried to pull him out, he died. Anna's seat belt had dug into her skin pretty badly but that was the only injury I'd been aware of till she was picked up and her hair moved away from the side of her head... I don't know how to describe it... but her head just looked... shattered... and crushed in with the metal. I had major burns all over my body, not to mention a broken arm and cracked ribs... but I wish that I'd gone with them... it's lonely... without them...'
The dangerously thin ice that Laik had built his entire world ontop of had come crumbling down in a few seconds. He no longer had Mattais to guide his way and he didn't have Anna's kind heartedness to keep him going. He still had his mother, but she was never the same either.
Laik can't help but blame himself for the death of the two of them. It had been his idea to take the plane ride. He'd insisted on it. He'd lied to her... promising her that it was perfectly safe. He hated himself for making them lose their lives. But, most of all, he hated the way he missed them. He hated the void that filled his being that made him occasionally wish he'd never met either of them. He knew that Mattais would tell him to soldier on and Anna would have reminded him to keep a smile on his face... so that's what he did.
He left to find new friends and new happiness. He decided that Silverthorn Crossing would be a good place to start and he's just begun to settle in as one of the town's mechanics.
