Personality:
caring; While only his twin sisters could ever get him to focus his entire life around them, Riv does care a lot about his friends. He may not be self-sacrificing, but if it's in his power, he'll more than likely help.
selfish; Sure, he'll help you out... until it starts interfering with his own personal happiness. As previously stated, Aurora and Shiloh are the only two to ever have River's full focus and attention. If River wants something, River gets it; that's how he sees it, anyway. Even so, he certainly won't go to any drastic lengths for his selfishness, like killing or maiming. Perhaps just a little threat here and there.
angry; It's not entirely clear just where his anger comes from. Even before he was turned, River always had a bit of a problem expressing his anger properly. Becoming a werewolf only made it harder to control. He has a tendency to yell, and has been known to physically show his anger - usually punching inanimate objects.
decisive; River doesn't like to waste time doing anything, especially when it comes to decision-making. While this is good for most people, the problem with River is he doesn't take the time to think about the different possibilities. He tends to go with whatever his gut tells him.
candid; River is basically an open book. He's not in-your-face with his feelings, but they tend to be written on his face. One great thing about this, is that he's open with his thoughts and concerns, so nothing stays bottled up inside of him.
forgiving; He doesn't like being angry at anyone, so he's usually very forgiving if he's wronged. The only exception to this is anything that comes to his sisters. Wrong him, and the action will more than likely be brushed off; wrong his sisters, and it's very unlikely to ever be back on his good side.
optimistic; The world could be ending, and River would still find some way to be happy. There's likely not a sad bone in his body. In his opinion, there's always something to smile about. In fact, it's almost an obsession to make everyone he comes in contact with put a smile on their face.
eccentric; If you know River, you know that he's not your typical person. Just because he can be easy to read doesn't mean he's easy to follow or understand. His thoughts and ideas are usually very odd, and his actions can be even more odd. He has a tendency to bounce from subject to subject, and if you're not careful, he will confuse you.
self-loathing; River believes himself to be a monster, an abomination. He thinks that when he does finally die, he will go straight to Hell. Obviously, he didn't always hate himself. But being turned, being a danger to the world around him, has brought on a severe lack of self-worth.
Family: Marni Woods - Mother - Deceased.
Reece Woods - Father - Alabama.
Aurora - Sister - Alabama.
Shiloh - Sister - Alabama.
History:
Whenever one thinks of Valentine's Day, it's typically chocolates, hearts, and beautiful flowers that pop into the mind. A romantic dinner, fun on the beach, or just a day spent at home with your loved one is all you ever really ponder. Marni Woods didn't have time to think of chocolates and romance. She was too busy giving birth to her first child. Of course, being the caring, romantic, and wonderful husband that Reece Woods was, he still bought her flowers. They were fake, but it was the thought that counted. Besides, it wasn't as if he was about to leave his wife for any period of time. Truthfully, the woman shouldn't have even been giving birth. Marni Woods suffered from Tuberculosis. Reece, an intelligent doctor full of potential, nearly drove himself mad trying to find a cure.
For the next four years of his life, River actually had a very wonderful life. Though his father was quite busy, and his mother was usually too sick to play with a rambunctious toddler, both parents made sure he was happy. They took care of his necessities and tried hard to keep him entertained. When Marni found out she was pregnant again, the two were exceedingly happy. Even River grew excited, feeding off of the emotions of his parents. Several months after River's fourth birthday, Marni gave birth to two beautiful twin girls. While River more or less took after Reese, the two girls looked remarkably like their mother. At just four years old, River found himself entranced, and even at such a young age, could think of nothing but protecting these two little bundles of happiness.
Later that same day, Marni was pronounced dead; she'd apparently died giving birth, losing too much blood. Surprisingly, it was River who seemed to hold up the family. He couldn't do much, but after watching Reese, he managed to help up with minor things. He made sure the two girls - Aurora and Shiloh - had a happy life, too.
Taking care of his twin sisters didn't leave much time for River to get to know himself. When he was old enough, he did attend school, but he rarely participated in any type of after-school activity. He didn't even take his father to open houses. All of his focus was on his baby sisters; even if it was just watching Reese change their diapers, bathe them, or feed them, River was there.
Reese discovered that Shiloh had also contracted her mother's disease, and that caused his focus to almost entirely be put on her. This left eleven-year old Aurora mostly ignored by her father. In an attempt to keep the healthier twin from being deprived, River focused most of his attention on her. Despite that, Aurora quickly brushed off all attempts to console her. By the time she was thirteen, the girl developed a nasty temper; Shiloh was the opposite; very soft-spoken, albeit stubborn. Both girls frequently escaped from home, however.
Aurora and Shiloh were fifteen, River being nineteen. He still lived with his father at the time, still intent on staying with his sisters. The twins ran away from home together - which was actually quite rare, as Aurora tended to push Shiloh aside. It was late at night, and River had just come home from a college party - though he didn't attend college, it was rather normal for him to be invited. Discovering that the two were gone, he decided against telling Reece; there was no point in worrying the older man, as he had enough grey hairs as it was. It was just luck - or rather, bad luck - that put him in the wrong place at the wrong time.
River had always been very protective. Anyone in their neighborhood could tell: Don't fuck with River's family. He may have been thin, but he was known to brawl and beat the shit out of anyone who dared do something to his sisters. So when River found someone trying to shove his sisters into the back of the van, you could say things got pretty messy. The young adult literally saw red, and pretty much blacked out. Obviously, a fight ensued, though River couldn't tell you the details. He remembered something... A thing that was much too large to be a dog - much to large to be a human - seemed to materialize in front of him instead of the strange man.
River remembered being bit several times. He was thrown with more force than any human he'd ever known to have, landing on the cement. He and the strange not-human, not-dog beast wrestled. River's sisters screamed and cried. Even Aurora kept back, though. A gunshot rang in the air, and the beast collapsed on him. River struggled from beneath it, panting hard. He stood as quickly as he could, his eyes searching for the source of the gunshot. He found nothing. He brought his sisters home and tried to forget what had happened, to push it from his mind.
The next series of events were excruciating for Riv. Unfortunately for him, the 'next full moon' had only been two weeks away; hardly enough time to comprehend what had happened. He was actually inside - eating in the kitchen, as was usual - when horrible pain went through his entire body. Now, River had always considered himself to be fairly capable of withstanding great pain. But even he was on the ground, having to bite his tongue to keep from yelling out, curled up in a ball. It was pure instinct that sent him outside. What happened for the next several hours, Riv would never tell a soul.
After that, he packed up his things and, without explaining anything to his family, vanished. For the next few years, River was a traveler. Silverthorn Crossing just happened to be where he saw fit to drop his things and actually stay a while.
